Run Coaching
We offer run coaching for all abilities and distances from 5k up to ultra marathons. Where appropriate we both have input into our client’s training plans. We are very different when it comes to our own training, while Paul does love a Saturday morning Parkrun, he is at his happiest out on the trails for hours at a time. Gemma enjoys taking part in ultras but is at her happiest doing interval sessions and speed work. Between us we have all distances covered and bring different skill sets to our client’s training.
We both take a simple, balanced approach to training, using watch data to assist, but always staying in tune with how our bodies feel. Paul's background as a physiologist comes in useful when considering all the data modern running watches provide. He is familiar working with and interpreting physiological data, he also has experience with scientific research and has authored a few research papers of his own.
In addition to run coaching, Gemma is a personal trainer and a strength and conditioning coach with over 10 years of experience working with runners of all abilities. She is responsible for the strength and conditioning side of the training. As a qualified weight loss and nutrition advisor, she also offers support with dietary and weight loss goals alongside physical training if needed.

I started running Ultra marathons back in 2010, I quickly realised I had no idea what I was doing with DNF’s for my first two attempts. I learnt from my mistakes and over the next few years finished several ultra marathons from 50k to 100 miles and some multi day events. I was very much a mid pack runner, out there for the experience and enjoying some incredible events, often running alongside Gemma. I decided I wanted to push myself harder and set myself the challenge of completing a 50 miler with no walking, I got a huge PB and it made me realise that if I stepped up my training I could achieve more. I worked hard, had a great running coach and I started to see huge improvements, I soon found myself on podiums and even winning some of the races I completed. I’ve lost count but I think I am approaching around 70 ultramarathon and trail marathon finishes in the last 15 years.
I was unable to compete for a couple of years due to some unfortunate health issues, I was unable to run consistently, with long periods of time where I was unable to run at all. During this time, I needed something positive to focus on so I decided to do a running coach qualification with the idea of training myself back to full fitness as soon as I was able to run consistently again. Once I recovered I decided it was time for a change. I enjoyed the run coaching so much that I left my job in the NHS where I worked as a Cardiac Physiologist for over 20 years. I now focus on run coaching full time and love sharing my running experience with others and helping them to achieve their own running goals.

In my late 20’s I started running to lose weight and get fit, this turned into running marathons and then into running ultramarathons. My passion for exercise continued to grow and after 13 years working in the City of London I decided it was time for a change. I am now a personal trainer and run coach and have been helping others to achieve their health and fitness goals for the last 10 years.
Running is my passion and I really enjoy coaching runners to reach their potential. I coach runners of all abilities, whether it is running your first Parkrun, training for your first marathon or if it’s all about chasing PB’s I can help you.
I have run over 250 Parkruns and I have finished over 50 marathon and ultra marathon races up to 100 miles. I understand runners of all abilities, I finished dead last in my first ever marathon and only 30 seconds within the cut off. Since then I have coached myself to race wins and podium finishes in all distances from 5k to marathon.

Runners know only too well that injuries happen! A sensible and suitable training plan will of course reduce the chance of injuries but it is also important to do regular strength and conditioning alongside your run training. Not only does regular strength training reduce your risk of injury it will also improve your running efficiency and performance.
We offer all coached clients one free online 30 minute run specific strength and conditioning session.
For those who would like additional help, we also offer strength and conditioning sessions, click here to find out more.
